Biographical Sketch David A. Mark
David A. Mark, Ph.D., is President of dmark consulting LLC, a firm specializing in science management services for the functional food, dietary supplement, ingredient, and performance nutrition industries.
Since founding dmark consulting LLC in 2004, David has provided expert science consulting for clients ranging from start-ups to Fortune 500 companies and from designing a research strategy through defending advertising claims from challenges from the Federal Trade Commission.
David is the former Manager of Health & Nutrition R&D for Welch Foods Inc, Concord, MA. His responsibilities included identifying and developing proof for functional food health claims for Welchs purple and white grape juice products.
Before Welchs, while a Project Leader at Clintec Nutrition Company (now part of Nestle Clinical Nutrition), David brought over 20 new medical nutrition products to market 9 of which are still in production 16 years later and was co-inventor on 14 U.S. patents.
During a still earlier stint at National Dairy Council (Chicago) he managed the clinical research program providing support for the health claim that the calcium in dairy foods helps maintain health bones and slows the progression of osteoporosis. He also managed nutrition education programs for physicians and affiliated healthcare professionals.
His published work in peer-reviewed journals includes articles in the Journal of Nutrition and the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition. He is a member of the American Society for Nutrition, Institute of Food Technologists, and Society of Professional Consultants.
His published work in trade and health magazines includes such articles as Who Owns This Joint? [supplements for arthritis] and The Antioxidant Age Is So Over.
David earned a Doctorate in Nutritional Biochemistry & Metabolism from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
